Backflow Services

Backflow preventer installation & repair

Backflow preventers protect the drinking water supply from contamination. Tier One installs, repairs and replaces backflow assemblies for homes and select commercial properties, and corrects the piping around them.

What a backflow preventer does.

Under normal conditions, water flows one way: from the public supply into your property. A drop in supply pressure or a pressure surge on your side can reverse that flow and pull water from irrigation lines, equipment, or other connections back into the potable supply. A backflow prevention assembly stops that from happening.

Water utilities in South Florida run cross-connection control programs, and many properties with irrigation systems, fire lines, or commercial equipment are required to have a backflow assembly installed and tested on a schedule. When an assembly fails, leaks, or is installed incorrectly, it needs to be repaired or replaced.

Common Problems

When a backflow assembly needs attention.

A failed test

When an assembly fails its required test, the utility will expect it to be repaired or replaced and retested.

Leaking or dripping

Water discharging from the assembly or leaking at its fittings can indicate worn internal parts or a pressure problem.

A compliance notice

A letter from your water utility may require an assembly to be installed, upgraded, or brought into compliance.

Damage or corrosion

Outdoor assemblies are exposed to sun, irrigation overspray, landscaping equipment and corrosion.

FAQ

Backflow questions.

Does my home need a backflow preventer?

It depends on your utility’s requirements and how your property is plumbed. Homes with irrigation systems connected to the drinking water supply, certain fire sprinkler systems, or auxiliary water sources are the most common cases. Your utility can confirm what applies to your address.

How often does a backflow assembly need to be tested?

Testing schedules are set by the local water utility, and annual testing is common. Your utility’s notice will tell you what’s required and by when.

My assembly failed its test. What now?

A failed assembly usually needs internal repair or replacement, followed by a retest. Call us with the test results and a photo of the assembly, and we’ll explain the options.
